This is  Jack,  a  very handsome black  lab, I’m  actually in the midst  of   doing  his  best  friend  a black  cat  at  the  moment. :) This piece is  8″ x 10″  and  done in oils.

Some new pieces…

A few weeks ago i was asked to do a colored pencil demo for some students of mine that work in colred pencils. I havent pulled my Prismacolors out in about 7 years as well so it was fun to  experiment  with them  again.  Here  is  my finished   demo,  which  I wanna  say is  about  5″ x 5″  or  so in size. For the whiskers,   I   tried  a  new  technique  I had  never  done  before  of  scratching   with  a  blade   into the  work,  to reveal the white underneath. I think it was a success.

Another  work  just completed   started  as  a painting demo in  my  Animal Portraiture  class  a few Sundays ago. I  only  got  as far    as   drawing it on the canvas and   “plopping”  my first   layer  of paint   down,  but  I   wanted  to continue  with  it  so  i   do  another layer  and  some  details  to it.  I  think  its a  strong image, and  whats  interesting  to  at least  myself is  I   actually didnt  go in  with my  little  rigger  aka  ”whisker”   brush  to   create  any little  hairs (only the whiskers).  The  whole  portrait  was   completed  with a a small flat brush, (synthetic not bristle).

I guess   this  post  was  all  about  me  doing art  of  my  cat  La la!

Enjoy!

Schatze

I havent  blogged for  a while,  have  so much to blog about! I figure ill start  with  Schatze.  I  was commissioned  a  while back to  do  a  5″ x 7″  graphite portrait  of this  beautiful  German Shepherd, Schatze. So gorgeous, and so  well behaved!

Heres   how  it  turned out!

 Schatze Graphite 5" x 7"

Schatze Graphite 5" x 7"

I was  so  inspired  by  Schatze  that I  used   her   for  a bunch  of  demos   that   week in my classes.  Here  is an oil  demo  I  did in my animal portraiture class one Friday!

Schatze in Oil 9" x 12"

Every once in a while I  am  thoroughly inspired  by  one  particular dog or  cat  or   who knows! Enough  to   draw/ paint them   a number of  times.  What inspires  you?

Lots of things to  blog,  so  keep updated  and  stay tuned for the next one by subscribing!
