MORNING  OIL PAINTING

The focus of this class will be to train the student in the basic skills needed to paint in oils with particular attention to the use of color, light, shadows, composition, brush handling and materials. Students may work from photographs or from a still life that will be set up for reference. Demonstrations will be given.

EVENING OIL PAINTING

Learn the techniques of painting in oils in a fun, hands-on environment with particular attention to the use of color, light, shadows, composition, brush handling and materials. The course is designed for the beginner or intermediate student who would like to brush up on the basics. Students may work from photographs or from a still life that will be set up for reference. Demonstrations will be given.

Choose your pet or a favorite animal and create a portrait using the medium of your choice. The instructor will show several techniques to achieve realistic looking fur and feathers. Anatomy and proportion will be covered.

ADULT CLASSES:

Animal Portraiture

Thursdays 12:30-3 , 10 weeks starting 4/14/2011 – 6/16/2011

$230 for member’,s and non members, $260.00

Students will be able to work in any medium they desire, as they receive individual attention. Demonstrations about the structure and anatomy of animals will be given, and textures such as fur and feathers will be addressed. The workshop will look at how to start a drawing loosely with gestures in charcoal and graphite, and explore nuances like the differences in drawing dog and cat noses by seeing the structure beneath the fur. Evening Oil Painting

Wednesdays 7-9:30 10 weeks starting 4/13/2011 – 6/15/2011

Member: $ 230.00 – Non member -$260.00

This course will help students learn not only the fundamentals of using oils, but how to fine tune the details using different techniques. Particular attention to color theory, composition, light and shadow, form, and brush handling will be covered. Using either a photograph or a still life set up by the instructor, students will learn to develop their painting, while maintaining their individual style. Demonstrations will be given and materials used will be discussed. Request a materials list.(No Class July 28).

Drawing Basics and Beyond

Thursdays 10 Weeks, 9:30- 12, starting 4/14/2011 – 6/16/2011

Member: $ 230.00 – Non member -$260.00

Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of drawing, such as line, light and shadow, shading, composition and form. Techniques and demonstrations will be shown in both pencil and charcoal. Subjects such as still life, portraiture, perspective, figure drawing, and much more will all be addressed. Request a materials list.

TEEN CLASSES:

Drawing Techniques (ages 11-13)

10 weeks, Saturdays 10-11:30 starting 4/16/2011 – 6/25/2011

$200 for members, and $230 for non members

Students will be introduced to intermediate drawing techniques. Learn how to draw different types of surfaces, including fabric, metal and glass. Students will explore graphite and charcoal powders, toned paper and conté pencil. Perspective, portraiture and figure drawing will be covered. Request a materials list.

Painting Techniques (ages 11-13)

10 weeks, Saturdays 12-1:30 starting 4/16/2011 – 6/25/2011

$200 for members, and $230 for non members

In this class, students will learn the process of bringing a drawing through various painting stages to a completed masterpiece. Various painting and brush handling techniques will be introduced. Elements of light and shadow, tonal contrast, washes, glazes, color theory and composition will be covered. Demonstrations will be shown in class. This class is suitable for all levels. Portfolio Development (ages 13+)

10 weeks, Saturdays 2-4 starting 4/16/2011 – 6/25/2011

$200 for members, and $230 for non members

Portfolio Development will teach students how to present and photograph art, as well as develop a strong and diverse portfolio. Discussions about particular schools, majors and outlets/jobs in the art field will be included. Students will also create fully rendered drawings in graphite and charcoal with texture and three-dimensionality. The class will instill a strong understanding of the anatomy, gestures and proportion, perspective and proper understanding of facial measurements. Request a materials list.

Drawing & Painting (ages 13+)

Thursdays 10 Weeks, 6-8, starting 4/14/2011 – 6/16/2011

$200 for members, and $230 for non members

Students will build a solid foundation in the fundamentals of drawing and painting, with a particular emphasis on allowing students to develop their own style and promoting artistic individuality. Through demonstrations, observations and experimentations, students will be able to explore how to use color and shadow to create a still life, portrait and more. Request a materials list.

CHILDRENS CLASSES:

Fundamentals of Drawing & Painting (ages 11-13)

Thursdays 10 Weeks, 4-5:30, starting 4/14/2011 – 6/16/2011

$200 for members, and $230 for non members

This class welcomes all young students interested in learning about the fundamentals of drawing and painting. For the first half of class, drawing basics will be taught, while the second half focuses on an introduction to color theory and painterly techniques using acrylic paint. Students will work from still-lifes, live models and photographic sources. Perfect for beginner and intermediate students! Request a materials list.

Artistic Creations (ages 9-12)

WEdnesdays 4 – 5:30, 10 weeks starting 4/13/2011 – 6/15/2011

Member: $ 200 for members, $230 for non members

This class provides and introduction to various art historical movements and eras throughout time. Learning about a variety of artists and being exposed to different media, ideas and techniques will encourage students to learn not only fundamental lessons, such as portraiture and still life drawing, but other expressionistic tools and styles such as pointillism, impressionism and more.

Mini-Masters (ages 6-9)

Mondays, 4-5:30 starting 4/11/2011 – 6/27/2011

$200 for members, and $230 for non members

This class will feature weekly projects geared around both old and new masters of the art world. Students will learn about Cubism with Picasso, Realism with Rembrandt and Impressionism with Van Gogh, just to name a few. A variety of materials will be used, including acrylics, oil pastels, ink, charcoal, chalk pastels, clay, and watercolor.
